Learn the ways to install Wordpress Software

Wordpress is relatively easy to install on a web hosting account and there are several ways to do it. We're going to outline a few of the different ways for you in this post.

via FTP

Using an FTP program, cPanel and the login credentials providing by your hosting company at the time of signup, you can install Wordpress so that it is accessible at your domain.

To begin, download a copy of the latest version of Wordpress: https://wordpress.org/download/

Next, you'll need to open your FTP program and connect to the server using your hostname (typically yourdomain.com), Username (UN) and Password (PW).

Once you are connected, navigate to the public_html folder to install in the root directory (yourdomain.com).

Unzip the file on your local hard drive prior to beginning the upload process. Then upload all of the folders and files from your local hard drive to the web server. You can skip the upload of readme and license files as they are not needed.

Create a Database and Database User

Follow the directions in this article to create a new Database and Database User. Keep the password available as you'll need it during the actual setup/install process. https://core.evolvewebhost.com/knowledgebase.php?id=51-create-a-database

Once all files are uploaded and your database has been created, it's time to run the quick setup process! Open your web browser and navigate to yourdomain.com/install to find the setup screen. Choose your language and click continue. On the next page, you'll be able to enter the database information and create a username and password. Please change admin to something unique and remember to choose a strong password. Once the correct details have been entered, click install and let Wordpress work its magic for a minute.

That's it! You're now ready to begin designing your Wordpress website.

via Softaculous

Softaculous is available on our Shared Web Hosting plans and on all VPS servers if you choose to add it to your monthly plan. Softaculous is a package of various software that you can choose from and easily install on your domain(s). This is an easy route for the first timers and it helps to make upgrades easier as well.

Locate Softaculous

Login to your cPanel account and scroll down until you find the section titled 'Softaculous'

Click on the Wordpress logo and on the next screen, click 'install now'. Softaculous will walk you through the process of selecting the location you want to install Wordpress along with creating a database and database username. Install the newest version and make sure you go through each option of the install process. Details of the installation will be emailed to you if you choose to enter your email address at the bottom of the page.
