COMMON WEB TERMS

Whether you’re online now or wanting to bring your business online, there are a few common terms you should familiarize yourself with. While these terms are all related to a website, they all play a different role in the process.

Domain Name

A Domain Name is the Name of your website. It’s what comes after the @ in your email address or after the www. In your web browser.

A few examples are:
apple.com
evolvewebhost.com
google.com

The first step to creating an online presence is to register a domain name or even multiple domain names (to secure your brand name). When you’re ready, you can register your very own domain name on our website

You can even register multiple TLD’s (.com, .org, .co, .net, etc)

URL (Uniform Resource Locator)

A URL is the complete address used to find any given page on your website. Every URL contains your Domain Name as well as a specific page name to locate the content your visitors want to see.

A few examples are:
https://www.evolvewebhost.com/account
https://www.apple.com/iphone/
https://www.google.com/

Web Hosting Plan

Once you have your domain name, you still need a place to build your actual website. A web hosting plan is where you rent a portion of our server where you will then upload and store your website files. Once you have a web hosting plan, your Domain Name is configured to point to our server and load your website when it is searched for on the Internet.
